I need some advice on a character idea I have

I'd like to have a hairless ferret character, who is fully convinced that he is a human, a little nutty in the head, but I need advice!

1. Is this a good idea?
If not then is there any way I can tweak it to be better?

2. Hairless mutation, or hereditary?
Should his hairlessness be a mutation from some experiment, or a hereditary mutation, if an experiment, what might cause total hair loss on an animal?

3. Mental malfunction
What kinds of tests or events could possibly make him legitimately think he is a human, not voluntarily, more like something snapped and made him a little off?

Thank you so much for your help, I've been mulling this guy over and really want to make him a good character! ^^ I've been wanting to make a ferret, so any help would be awesome!

Well seeing as I'm in charge of ferrets for tanzy I know lots of stuff about them if you want my help. I mean I even had one that lost all her fur on an everyday basis! So if you want my help let me know!

Especially since you've been around them and know a lot ;w;

Like because, if his fur condition ends up being a more hereditary condition, I can focus his experiments more on psychological aspects, such as whatever altered his personality to think the way he does!

that makes sense, also some ferrets are just born with the condition, i know lucy was born with a genetic disease that made her loose her fur, also since ferrets are tested on with flu symptoms, he could think he is a human do to side effects from medicine that was meant for a real human.
